Go to 21st Century of digital economy, go with blockchain conference

The conference was aimed to let the public consider and realize that society can positively be reformed in the 4th Industrial Revolution by the technology of Blockchain or the distributed-ledger technology whereby no intermediaries present in transaction, and whereby a security is given and assured by a time-stamped mechanism of the technology can be deployed in transactions, and thus help addressing social matters.

Who organize the Blockchain Conference:

The International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI) hosts the conference with a collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce Chiang Mai including the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking.

The purposes of the conference:

ICDI provides 3 degree programmes in Digital Innovation and Financial Technology all of which was based upon the bridging education and industry/market together – which is ICDI’s fundamental philosophy.
The Blockchain Conference “Reforming a Society with Blockchain” is organized with the view to strengthening ICDI capacity and Chiang Mai as a whole in the area of digital innovation and financial technology. In short, Chiang Mai could be playing a pivotal role in finance and innovation of the region. Also, the conference is giving the society understanding and awareness as of the high potential of blockchain being successfully deployed in finance including other social issues.

Blockchain in plain terms:

  • Plainly speaking the Blockchain technology - otherwise called a peer-to-peer or distributed ledger technology, is decentralized with time stamp. It follows that information or other legal rights and documents recorded by the Blochchain technology cannot be tampered with. As such it provides trust regarding validity of the recorded documents/rights. Also, the recorded documents/legal rights were distributed in the network (nodes) – which comes the term ‘distributed ledger’.
  • The Blockchain technology thus provides trust which we normally have paid for to the intermediaries, such as Bank or other government agencies, for executing transactions. In short, the Blockchain technology takes away the intermediaries, and trust is being securely created and established by the technology. It enables the transactions being executed in less time and cost.
  • The Blockchain technology, as its nature tells, is capable of reforming a society in many different ways ranging from finance to energy, logistics, smart contracts including healthcare among others. It is truly disruptive.
  • Thailand has responded to its significance by promulgating the Business of Digital Assets Decree 2561 BE (2018), effective on 13 May 2018. It approves digital asset business, notably token and cryptocurrency, subject to later rules and regulations. On 17th April 2019, Bank of Thailand is being prepared to issue its own digital currency – dubbed the Inthanon Project.

What we will learn at the Blockchain Conference:

  • We will learn how the Blockchain technology works in transactions and being used in important social sectors, such as energy, logistics, legal contracts and healthcare. Most importantly, we will know Thailand’s policy and practices as of new financial business of digital economy.

Who are the speakers?

  • We have brought in the speakers who are well-known in their field regarding blockchain technology including the senior government officials who are highly well-documented experiences in finance and business.
