Niigata University Student Exchange Program – Spring 2027 | Call for Applications

The International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), Chiang Mai University, is pleased to announce the Niigata University Student Exchange Program for Spring 2027, offering eligible undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to study in Japan for one semester or one academic year.

Selected exchange students will receive a tuition fee waiver throughout the exchange period. Eligible applicants may also apply for the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship, which provides a monthly allowance of JPY 80,000, subject to the scholarship's eligibility requirements and selection criteria.

Program Information

Host University: Niigata University, Japan
Program: Student Exchange Program – Spring 2027
Study Duration:

• One Semester: April – August 2027

• One Academic Year: April 2027 – February 2028

Eligible Students: Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Tuition Fees: Waived throughout the exchange period
Minimum Study Requirement: At least 10 hours of classes per week (approximately 7 class periods)
Estimated Living Expenses: JPY 80,000 per month

Scholarship and Financial Support

1. Tuition Fee Waiver

Students selected for the exchange program will be exempt from tuition fees at Niigata University throughout their exchange period.

2. JASSO Scholarship

Eligible applicants may apply for the JASSO Scholarship, which offers:

• Monthly Stipend: JPY 80,000

• Eligibility: Subject to JASSO's requirements and selection criteria

• Award Availability: Not guaranteed and subject to scholarship consideration

3. Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for expenses not covered by the exchange program or scholarship, including:

• International travel expenses

• Accommodation and utilities

• Meals and daily living expenses

• Health insurance and other personal expenses

The estimated cost of living is approximately JPY 80,000 per month. Applicants are encouraged to prepare sufficient financial resources before departure.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Chiang Mai University, having completed at least one semester of study.

2. Maintain active student status at Chiang Mai University throughout the entire exchange period.

3. Not be awaiting graduation or scheduled to graduate during the exchange period.

4. Return to Chiang Mai University to continue their studies after completing the exchange program.

5. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.

6. Demonstrate good communication skills in Japanese or English.

   • Applicants wishing to enroll in regular academic courses taught in Japanese must have Japanese proficiency equivalent to JLPT N1 or N2.

7. Be in good physical and mental health and capable of completing the exchange program.

8. Agree to comply with Japanese laws, program regulations, and the instructions and policies of Niigata University.

Financial Documentation Requirements

Applicants must provide financial evidence according to their funding arrangements.

Option A: Self-Funded Applicants

Applicants who will cover their own expenses must submit:

• Bank Balance Certificate demonstrating sufficient financial resources equivalent to at least JPY 89,000 per month.

Option B: Applicants with a Financial Sponsor

Applicants receiving financial support from a sponsor must submit all four documents:

1. Financial Support Statement

2. Sponsor's Bank Balance Certificate

3. Sponsor's Income Certificate

4. Sponsor's Employment Certificate

Important Document Submission Instructions

All required application documents must be combined into ONE PDF file per applicant for submission to ICDI.

Applicants should ensure that their documents are complete, accurate, and prepared according to Niigata University's requirements.

Application Procedure for ICDI Students

Interested ICDI students must apply through the ICDI International Relations Unit for internal review and nomination.

Step 1: Review the Program Information

Carefully review the exchange program details, eligibility requirements, and application instructions on Niigata University's official website.

Step 2: Prepare the Application Documents

Complete the required application form and prepare all supporting documents, including financial evidence.

Step 3: Submit Documents to ICDI

Combine all required application documents into one PDF file and submit them by email to:

ICDI Internal Application Deadline: November 3, 2026, by 3:00 PM

Step 4: Internal Review and Nomination

The ICDI International Relations Unit will review the submitted documents and coordinate the nomination process with the relevant Chiang Mai University offices.

Please note: The ICDI internal deadline is established to allow sufficient time for document verification and university nomination procedures. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.

Final acceptance is subject to Niigata University's selection process.
